If one of your clients receives a promotion, this should be marked on LinkedIn so their connections can congratulate and follow their career growth.
In addition, a promotion on LinkedIn is relatively straightforward. You can do it either by editing existing job experience or adding new positions.
Job Title
When you receive a promotion, it’s essential that your job title on LinkedIn reflects this change and informs your connections about it. In turn, this could open doors to new opportunities. Plus, updating it quickly and effortlessly via either desktop web browsing or mobile app makes an excellent opportunity to showcase your skills and expertise to potential employers. Updating LinkedIn job titles is easy – simply update either at desktop website browsing or via mobile app!
As soon as you arrive on the website, hover your cursor over the job that needs editing to reveal a pencil icon. Click this to open up its box and make the necessary changes – replacing old job titles with new ones as necessary and updating any details that have changed; toggling to the “On” position if applicable will notify all members about these updates.
As part of your transition, it’s advisable to update your profile headline as it might still reflect your former role. To do this, click on the pencil in your header and edit the text according to what your new role requires. Lastly, if you don’t wish for anyone in your network to know of this news in an informal way then simply choose not to share in the pop-up window.
Alternatively, you can add your promotion in the same manner as any other experience on LinkedIn. When editing a job and clicking Edit again, a prompt appears below the title asking if “you got promoted? Add a new position to demonstrate career advancement”. Clicking this blue “+ Add New Position” button and entering your promotion is the preferred method of updating LinkedIn of any changes made to your position on their platform.
Start Date
If your public profile already features your old job listed, add your new one as soon as possible to show your professional growth and reflect any promotions. You can change its start date and whether or not to notify your network (this option will appear green or gray depending on your privacy settings). Be sure to choose an employment type, company name, and location that differs from those previously listed; otherwise, the roles could become confusing. Moreover, you have the option of ending your current position immediately should desire.
End Date
Once you’re satisfied with your new position, click “Save.” If you wish to notify your network of your promotion, toggle that option before clicking “Save.” If your profile headline section displays your old job title instead of your new one, change that title accordingly; alternatively, you can check a box to add an end date if no longer relevant; click “Save,” and your promotion has now been updated on LinkedIn!
